Monsters At Work: A Workcom That Actually Feels Like Work

3:19 PM · Jun 30, 2021 "..."

Skipping ahead nearly 15 years from My Friends Tigger and Pooh, and 30-ish from most everything else I've discussed, Monsters at Work was the last show of the Disney Watch during my original run on Twitter. Around this time, only first two episodes were out, so naturally, to celebrate, I brought along some friends: Aster, Izumi, and Ian! Here was some of what we thought...

[Image ID: A group chat. Nichekingdom says "wrench the nut." Aster says "i do not enjoy this character." young-mink says "wrench the nut guys." festive-dingo says "wrench the nut" /.End ID]

[Image ID: A group chat. festive-dingo says "scrumbo?" Nichekingdom says "yummy scrumbo." Aster says "I ENJOY HIM." young-mink says "yummy scrumbo" /End ID]
[Image ID: A group chat. Nichekingdom says "wrench the nut." festive-dingo says "bringing back the nut." Aster says "wrench the nut." young-mink says "wrench the nut." /End ID]

Yeah none of this makes sense.... Which was really the original take I had on Monsters at Work. After two episodes, I decided it was C-tier material.

I'm not sure I feel that way now.

Also something I did for this project after around Gargoyles was to predict the ratings of the shows I hadn't seen fully yet. I forgot to include this for My Friends Tigger and Pooh (though I believe it was C or D tier). For Monsters at Work, I thought it was gonna be B-tier. Thought it was gonna be good. I was wrong.

Monsters At Work slowly becomes your "everyman with a group of weirdos he learns to love" stories, which isn't inherently bad. For example, Community pulls off this trope well by making the characters incredibly off the shits, but giving them all a bit of relatability, including its everyman (though I use the term loosely), Jeff Winger. Not to mention, the characters in community play well off one another very well.

Monsters At Work tries to do a similar formula, with Tylor as our everyman tossed into MIFT with funny gay dad Fritz, positive and reminiscent of the good ol' college days Val, Cutter who exists, and Duncan, who sucks shit.

[Image ID: A group chat. young-mink says "except duncan, I like Duncan." Nichekingdom says "DUNCAN IS LITERALLY THE WORST ONE." Aster says "Scar's just transphobic." young-mink says "Duncan is the best one, what are you talking about?" festive-dingo says "this is just tdi discourse again." /.End ID]

Unfortunately, my friends seem to have deemed him a "transmasc king."

Val and Duncan probably could have been my favorite characters if they were both a little more morally grey. One of the episodes went into Val and Tylor's relationship and how Tylor was the only person who was ever nice to Val in college, which was why she acted like that. Which... I guess I understand what the show was going for, but it would have been so much funnier if Val was gaslighting Tylor into thinking certain college experiences happened for funsies, or to get it right in his mind that they're besties. A little underhanded, but improving morale. Duncan should take up kinning that's the only take I have to make him seemingly kinder but still a dick.

The show also focuses on Mike and Sully, being the new CEOs of Monsters Inc. Though they're in charge, they're still humble, and Mike still has to fill out paperwork for Roz... I mean... Roze... They're usually the ones in the more goofball situations. Probably because they are rich now. This theme will be important later.

Ultimately, this story takes immediately after the first movie, showing us consequences, which is interesting. It seems Monster's Inc. is the first and currently only one to use laugh power instead of scream power, which gets them into all sorts of pickles, but feels incredibly low-stakes. If Tylor gets fired, he can work another job as a scarer. It's evident he's good at this, and is willing to negotiate his dreams, so I know he'll turn out okay even if he's thrown onto the streets. Even though Tylor wants to impress Mike and Sully, a lot of events will hurt Mike and Sully, but not Tylor in the long run.

The Cover Up is a great example of this. Duncan (the temp boss), Tylor (who did a prank on Duncan gone horribly wrong), and Val (who gave Duncan temp boss) discuss accountability for an outage and agree it is all their faults. Also Cutter's fault (told Tylor to prank Duncan) but honestly she's just there. So, Duncan suggests a cover up that would ultimately save their jobs but create risk in the laugh economy. Ideally, Mike and Sully would want to identify the problem that clears their business's name, but for some reason, it puts all of them on the same side...

A lot of episodes are surprisingly business oriented, and rarely in a funny way. Which is weird because these are a bunch of outcasts. You'd think a bigheaded character like Duncan might be the Ted Baxter of mechanics, but he's mostly just lazy...

12:29 PM · Jan 2, 2022 "the exciting adventure that is a Wall Repair Episode"

Also a lot of the original voice actors are phoning it in a bit...

11:58 PM · Jul 8, 2021 "god jennifer tilly DOES NOT want to be here"
12:44 PM · Jan 2, 2022 "this song would be so sweet if billy crystal gave an iota of a shit"

Which kind of sucks because they're given a lot of attention, every episode even ends with Mike teaching comedy... A cute premise, but it's hard to make comedy funny and Monsters at Work isn't willing to put in any effort.

12:50 PM · Jan 2, 2022 "there was a bit where everyone was trying to understand a whoopie cushion and i was like "oh this is a really good bit of anti-humor" but then they tried to make it funny and added way too much"

I hate to suggest that Monsters at Work is corporate, especially since the one thing that has been drilled into me while watching these shows is that every single one of them is corporate. You can detect the patterns Disney was doing over periods of time to try and rake in those cable subscriptions and whatnot.

But nonetheless.

12:42 PM · Jan 2, 2022 "monsters at work is dogshit"

Also Blue Mike, the most hilarious character in the show, is only in one episode of the 6 I watched and it was boring.

Rating For Monsters at Work: D-Tier

We're gonna have to come back to this one though. Season 1 was only 10 episodes and we're guaranteed a season 2 down the line... So look out for part two coming ????????? idk lol

...Also while we're at it, since we're moving down, why don't we move up too? Season 3 of Amphibia has absolutely been killing it with all the new characters it has introduced. Hoping it stays as good!

Also I forgot Raw Toonage that is there too.

A Winnie the Pooh Double Feature!

I've been meaning to blog about Monsters at Work, but I'm having some technical difficulties. As for Ducktales, I'm gonna hold off on that for a while... I still haven't finished the reboot series for reasons, and getting my thoughts on the Disney Afternoon and Disney Duck Comics out in the open before I talk about Ducktales and its reboot (which will be one post by the by).

So let's jump right into another show that is gonna be a 2-for-1 special!

Other than being of the same franchise, I think it's worthwhile to talk about these two shows because they're of similar quality to me, albeit for different reasons.

New Adventures of Winnie the Pooh is the also the first show of the Disney Watch that I have a personal childhood history with. That being I had a Pooh phase as a very young child (think around age 3), and soon would have nothing to do with the creature for loser babies. But I'm an adult now, and I'm secure in my maturity to have an adult opinion on Pooh. Though honestly, that opinion is usually... Meh.

The first thing you will notice about NuPooh, as one may call it, is that it's a very American show. The original book is very 20's-30's Britain, which yeah. It was written then and there. Disney updates NuPooh to be more 80's-90's America, and personally, speaking as a Dumb American, I think this is to the show's benefit. First, and most importantly...

8:18 PM · Nov 30, 2020 "gopher i think is my favorite one"
10:50 PM · Nov 30, 2020
"GOPHER. the best character. he whistles and i imagine it is because he is saying fuck"

Gopher... While he was originally created as a way to Americanize the Disney film adaptation, he appears in the show and he's an absolute delight whenever I see him. He's just a guy.

Second, the first episode shows us Pooh, Piglet, and Tigger in a very modern American setting, which we don't usually see with Pooh media. That setting is a movie theater.

2:45 PM · Nov 10, 2020 "seeing winnie the pooh in a movie theater feels jarring"

Christopher Robin takes his funny little stuffed animals to see a film called "Birdzilla" and while they wait for the film to start, the three have some antics in the theater, discovering the world through these new eyes, and immediately, my brain goes to that genre of shows that involve a silly little creature and their human best friend having cool adventures and wacky shenanigans in the "human" world. Think Keroro Gunso, Onegai My Melody, Sonic X, this sort of genre.

Alas...

3:01 PM · Nov 10, 2020 "tbh i think more of the appeal of this show is pooh living in the human world"
3:51 PM · Nov 10, 2020
"very ep after the first has been about the hundred acre wood and i don't CARE i want pooh to explore 80s america"

Past this half of an episode (the other half involves everyone making a movie together), we don't leave the Hundred Acre Wood, Christopher Robin's house, or some imagination-sparked setting like a cowboy town. Of the 13 episodes I watched, the only one outside this setting as well involved Rabbit getting sold at a toy store.

But setting doesn't make a show! What about characters?

3:51 PM · Nov 10, 2020 "also rabbit is a little fucking insane. why does he laugh like that."
10:06 PM · Nov 10, 2020 "i hate rabbit so much i dont think im watching past 13 eps"
8:18 PM · Nov 30, 2020 "i really liked the rabbit ep even tho i hate him"

Not promising... Maybe Tigger, everyone's favorite, will make me feel differently...

2:53 PM · Nov 10, 2020 "the fact that tigger makes cat noises.... i think he's a lil bit of a cat boy"
10:17 PM · Nov 15, 2020 "i hate tigger he is a bad influence"
6:19 PM
· Nov 28, 2020 "criminal"

Well the funny cat boy joke didn't last long... At least there's Gopher... But did I like anyone else?

10:30 PM · Nov 30, 2020 "im starting to like pooh more but onl when they are 1) in the real world, or 2) face to face with mean asshole characters."
10:48 PM · Nov 30, 2020
"i think it's funny to see edgy characters in pooh because everyone is so nice acting in the main cast but they kinda suck..."
So really what gave Pooh an edge was its villain characters. It was really fun to see villain characters outdo the Pooh characters, who, were flawed, but those flaws never really came across in an entertaining way. It's a shame because I know there's a lot of Pooh media out there that does it well. From what little I've seen of my friend's Kingdom Hearts runthroughs and the newest Pooh movie. These guys are usually likeable. Just... Not here.

Even though the setting is disappointing and the best characters are the worst point of the show, it's still an entertaining watch for what it's worth. For every bad thing I mentioned, I feel like there's a good thing to make up for it. Annoying character? Here's a good moral for your kids! You don't like the setting? At least Gopher is there! Is the show getting too sweet for you. Look at this screencap.

There's a bit more I want to talk about here, but let's save it.

20-ish Years, A Third Dimension, and A Slapped Cap Later

10:53 PM · Mar 12, 2021 "GOPHER ISNT EVEN IN THIS ONE"

My Friends Tigger and Pooh..... is a slog. It's a slog for a lot of reasons that I don't know if I want to get into yet. We'll just write it off because it's a baby show.

But let's talk about the baby shows. A good rule of thumb is that shows that were originals of the Playhouse Disney era had themes, while shows that were originals of the Disney Junior era had lore.

Think about every Disney Junior show. We have Doc McStuffins who goes from a toy doctor to a toy doctor who travels to another dimension to run the dimension's hospital. Sofia the First goes from the story of a princess with a magical amulet to a girl who is chosen to be the storykeeper and helping people get their happy end. The Lion Guard's third season involves the titular Lion Guard on a journey to the Tree of Life. I cannot think of a single series from this era that didn't get more complex, save one season shows like The Rocketeer, or currently ongoing shows like Mira Royal Detective

Let's take some Playhouse Disney shows. Higglytown Heroes is a pretty concrete one. It teaches kids about all kinds of people in one's hometown that make it a better place to live. Little Einsteins is about teaching kids art and music. PB&J Otter and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse are both about problem solving, with the former being more social and abstract and the latter being more concrete and resourceful.

My Friends Tigger and Pooh falls cleanly into the Playhouse category, being a show about figuring out context clues.

All this to say, my tweets about this show make a clear picture of my thoughts

7:50 PM · Mar 13, 2021 "i like that there isn't a weird cruelty about the characters but at the same time, im kind of sick of it because that's how baby shows will be... everyone gets saccharinized... sometimes there is one grouch tho"

11:50 AM · Mar 14, 2021 "worth noting: even though the roles of rabbit and tigger are the same in new adventures and my friends, rabbit does not laugh like an insane person anymore, and tigger does not make cat noises. i'm a little disappointed by this."

My Friends Tigger and Pooh is kinder and friendlier than New Adventures, but this ultimately comes at the cost of making all of its characters soft and indistinguishable in personality. While I did not like the characterizations in New Adventures, at least they made me feel something!

Overall Rating for My Friends Tigger and Pooh: D Tier

Hmm... Am I forgetting something? Oh. Right.

Let's discuss the heffalump in the room.

10:50 PM · Nov 30, 2020 "the social dichotomy of heffalumps and woozles vs furry woodland creatures... it's clumsy."

In NuPooh, there's a lot of episodes that feature heffalumps and woozles, since, naturally, that's a part of the book. While in the movie they seem like these wild creatures, they're more normal in the show, and we sort of get this divide between them and the other furry woodland creatures. It's clear that the heffalumps and woozles are seen lacking manners at best and sinister at worst, and our main cast shows fear towards them.

However, in the time since NuPooh came out, Pooh's Heffalump Movie was released. This movie was all about accepting heffalumps because they're just like us, which honestly is great. And it introduced us to Lumpy, The Funny Little Drowning Victorian Child Heffalump. This is of note because Lumpy shows up constantly in My Friends Tigger and Pooh, showing that heffalumps are now widely accepted by the furry woodland creatures... However... woozles are not. On a few occasions people have made clear their fear of woozles. Which... I dunno. It just goes against the morals we've been setting up... Do we need to make Pooh's Woozle Movie to learn this lesson a second time?

It's also worth pointing out that Lumpy is seen by the Disney wiki as Roo's sidekick. Dang... :-(

From the decade that brought us making cartoons to sell toys, now we have a cartoon that sells us candy... kinda...

11:38 PM · Oct 7, 2020 "gummi bears seems like an ad but in reality it's a show about why you SHOULDNT eat them"

Bit of a disclaimer before we get into this one: I'm a white guy, so take the stuff I say here regarding Gummi culture and potential metaphors and themes of that with a grain of salt.

The less important disclaimer: I only watched two seasons of this one. I did watch the entirety of the Wuzzles, and this was around the time I started my 13 episodes or half rule. If I missed something in later seasons, let me know.

First thing I notice about this show is the voice cast for the Gummi Bears, particularly the older ones. Amongst the cast is Paul Winchell, June Foray, Bill Scott, and of course... Lorenzo Music.

But yes, even disregarding Garfield-isms, Paul Winchell is going to show up a lot throughout the 90s. As for June Foray and Bill Scott...

8:36 PM · Oct 23, 2020 "me watching gruffi and grammi now: wow cool rocky and bullwinkle"

Gruffi and Grammi have a pretty fun bickering dynamic, being the two oldest and most headstrong Gummis, and I really enjoyed watching it for its own sake too. I think those two handled that subtle 80's attitude in saccharine shows I discussed prior better than The Wuzzles did.

12:28 AM · Oct 8, 2020 "ok so gummi bears is a lot less negative than the wuzzles so far, which really.... isn't saying much. june foray and bill scotts characters bicker a lot that really makes me happy :-) grammi gummi is probably a favorite"
12:28 AM · Oct 8, 2020
"i hesitate to say gummi bears is an isekai. it all takes place in the same universe, but it does have archaeological finds so i guess it's kinda like professor layton"

But although Grammi was my favorite originally, it very quickly became Sunni.

8:45 PM · Oct 23, 2020 "sunni is dying her hair and playing with swords, as medieval young women are oft to do"
While Grammi is the strict maternal figure, and Gruffi is the traditionalist tough guy, Sunni is a teenage Gummi who has some trouble relating to... just about everyone else in the show, due to her age, gender, and being a Gummi.

Sunni could have had themes.

One episode that really stuck with me was "Guess Who's Gumming to Dinner?" I surprisingly didn't say anything about this episode in my tweets, but it stuck after a year and a half probably more than any other episode.

The episode has the Gummi Bears preparing for a big Gummi holiday, and Sunni decides it's a good idea to invite Calla, the local human princess. Worth nothing that Sunni and Calla are best friends due to being the only two teenage girls in the whole show. Because Calla is a princess, Sunni thinks it's a good idea to make this holiday palatable for Calla, making it prim and proper, like how a princess would celebrate a holiday. Which, naturally, pisses off all the other Gummis and Calla explains to Sunni that she wants to experience Sunni's culture the way Sunni does.

Sunni and Gruffi butt heads surpringly often as well. Sunni being the new generation that doesn't fully understand the culture she is a part of, and Gruffi being very entrenched in Gummi culture and wanting to do everything The Gummi Way, even if that way is outdated.

Something to point out here is that the Gummis believe themselves to be the last of their kind. There are some who show up here and there, but these six had no reason to believe there were any others left at the start of the series, and they kept themselves hidden from the humans, as humans had hurt their ancestors in the past and currently cohabit with them. These six also see themselves as the only ones left to perserve their culture and way of living.

It feels like a bit of a metaphor for colonialism.

I'd love to hear everyone's thoughts on this, but this is ultimately what I took away from the show.

3:33 PM · Oct 23, 2020 "ok i'm back on gummi bears which is interesting in terms of what it has to say socially.... i think it's kind of cool that the old adult character is learning magic. i dont see that ever..."

Zummi's another character I really like in terms of how he interacts with his culture. He spends the series teaching himself magic used by his ancestors, which frankly, he isn't the best at. Perhaps due to his stutter or otherwise, but he's still seen as the leader of the Gummis and sort of a keeper of Gummi relics.

I would probably say the characters, particularly Zummi, Gruffi, Sunni, and Grammi, are the show's strength, but ultimately they could have been deeper. These four have a lot to work through, and I wish the show went more into that. I don't think it necessarily needed to be dark or edgy, I just wish it went into the themes colonialism a little more. Instead we get the good humans (the monarchy), and the bad humans (the villains who want to destroy the monarchy). It's. Weird.

I don't really have much to say about Cubbi. He's a little boy. He wants to be a hero. He almost dies.

2:26 PM · Oct 29, 2020 "today's ep of gummi bears: a child gets threatened with the death penalty and walter cronkite is here"

There are a few episodes I want to discuss on their own: "What You See is Me," "You Snooze You Lose," and "Due Unto Ogres."

"What You See is Me" is an episode about Tummi meeting a girl named Trina who helps him ward off the villain, Duke Igthorn (probably called that because it sounds like Ick). Of note is that Trina is also blind.

9:10 PM · Oct 23, 2020 "tummi learns a lesson about not being ableist."
9:10 PM · Oct 23, 2020 "WAIT DOES TRINA NEVER COME BACK?"

I guess this is typical fare for a very special episode, but dang Trina was fun. They could have made something of Tummi.

"You Snooze You Lose" is a pretty typical episode, where Calla and the Gummi Bears save Calla's castle from Igthorn, but it has two notable things in it.

11:05 PM · Oct 23, 2020 "omg snow white"

A little on the nose there Disney. Don't worry it gets worse... As for the other thing.

11:05 PM · Oct 23, 2020 "the ogres took off their masks to talk to each other, giving this 1986 cartoon a meaning 34 years later"

I'm just. Gonna keep that one like that.

Finally, there's "Do Unto Ogres," in which Igthorn opts for a new lackey instead of his faithful Toadwart...

2:49 PM · Oct 29, 2020 "TOADIE'S BEEN CHEATED ON??? TOADIE CUCK???"

Yeah that's all I have to say there. It's a nice Sunni episode actually, but that was the funniest moment in the whole series for me.

Overall, despite having some really interesting themes to jump off of and some really fun characters, Gummi Bears was ultimately... very boring. You'll note there are some other Gummis I didn't mention, some plot devices I didn't bring up, and even some main characters I didn't mention. There just wasn't anything to say about them. And there's not all that much to say about Gummi Bears that isn't speculative.

It could have been great, but ultimately, it's passable.

The Wuzzles: Isekai, Fatphobia, and the Worst Friendgroup You Ever Did See

As I make this blog, I immediately find myself faced with a problem. In archiving my thoughts on these series, I realize that a lot of my thoughts are either A) me quoting the show or B) me making inside jokes only my friends would understand.

Also my takes on some of the early shows came from late 2020. People who knew me around this time may recall that I was quitting antidepressants and experiencing withdrawal effects, and I think it shows in my behavior and even my writing.

6:22 PM · Oct 6, 2020 "butterbear is the nubfb taco of the gang"

Also. I don't want to explain what an object show is to you guys...

Nonetheless, let's get into The Wuzzles.

I think when I was younger, particularly a teenager, I had this sort of idea that 80s cartoons like the Wuzzles were this very saccharine cutesy bull designed to sell toys. I think that whole opinion changed when I watched The Adventures of Teddy Ruxpin for the first time. Teddy Ruxpin was a really fun show. It wasn't overly edgy, but it did have a bit of an attitude to it, particularly with the snark coming from characters like Tweeg.

I bring this up because the Wuzzles also has that sort of attitude. Except it's not good.

In the first minute of the first episode, we are introduced to the narrator of the show. From what I recall the narrator has less impact the further we get into the show, but I think he's worth noting because he's the first person you meet

6:00 PM · Oct 6, 2020 "WHY DOES THE NARRATOR SOUND LIKE MORSHU IF HE WAS A NORMAL GUY?"

6:12 PM · Oct 6, 2020 "the narrator has decided to do sports commentary....."
12:14 AM · Oct 7, 2020 "the last time i saw this land of wuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuz"
12:16 AM · Oct 7, 2020 "guys i need you to understand this is basically an isekai but like. the person who got isekai'd was the narrator. like it's so jarring how much of a human man he is."

The narrator is probably one of the funniest characters in the show because of how human he is. It's as if he's your last tie to humanity as you plunge deeper into the Land of Wuz. Which is absolutely unnecessary because this is a show for babies. Nonetheless, he does give off the vibes of an isekai protagonist. Sorry Anne and Luz, looks like this unnamed jerk beat you out for Disney's first isekai protagonist.

As for the other characters, there's Bumblelion: a lion/bumblebee hybrid who is the defacto leader and looks like Gobo Fraggle

Butterbear is next, butterfly/bear hybrid, and notable for being The Girl of the show. If you've seen one, you've seen them all.

Next up is Moosel, a moose/seal hybrid voiced by Bill Scott of Rocky and Bullwinkle fame, who has an active imagination and a very difficult time telling fantasy from reality. His friends consider this a flaw that needs to be improved on rather than... An Actual Mental Illness

1:04 PM · Oct 7, 2020 "i think moosel is the closest we're gonna get to decent psychosis rep in a kids show"

Speaking of friends who consistently point out your flaws. Hoppopotamus. She's a rabbit/hippo hybrid who wants to be a star. She acts somewhat motherly and also has a big crush on Bumblelion. She's got a lot more personality than Butterbear, as well as actual wants and desires. However, since she's fat and therefore undesirable, it's seen as a joke.

Finally. Rhinokey. He's a rhino/monkey hybrid, and unfortunately has the most about him in the show. He's rich. He has a car. He's something of an Uber Driver before those things existed. But most importantly, he's a comedian. He's our comic relief. He brings the comedic attitude I mentioned prior. However, the way I talk about him implies that his jokes are not funny, but it's more than that.

Most of his jokes are about Hoppo.

12:26 AM · Oct 7, 2020 "wow... hoppopotamus fat joke i hate it here.... :-("
12:26 AM · Oct 7, 2020 "WOW RHINOKEY MADE ANOTHER ONE I'M GONNA END HIM."
12:32 AM · Oct 7, 2020 "the entire ep is like. fat jokes... i rlly hate it here"
12:38 AM · Oct 7, 2020 "i have been watching this at 2x bc lit every other joke this ep is a fat joke and it's sooooooo painfulllllll"

All of these tweets are from the second episode, Hooray for Hollywuz, during which Hoppo decides she wants to become a movie star. The entire rest of the episode is Rhinokey making snide remarks about Hoppo's weight, or her weight being the butt of a slapstick joke. It's not good...

6:17 PM · Oct 6, 2020 "i really hate rhinokey i hope they kill him off in the finale"

The hatred between these two lasts the whole show

9:42 PM · Oct 7, 2020 ""is that a fat joke" THE SHOW IS AWARE RHINOKEY'S FATPHOBIC JOKES ARE TASTELESS....."
10:28 PM · Oct 7, 2020 "rhinokey and hoppopotamus really hate each other...."

Honestly though the whole friendgroup is fucked

10:22 PM · Oct 7, 2020why are these guys friends"

There's also the villain, Crocosaurus... a crocodile/dinosaur and his two underlings: Flizard (frog/lizard) and Brat (Boar/...Dragon????). Honestly they were incredibly forgettable save two things

6:23 PM · Oct 6, 2020 "we just met the villain and he's anti capitalist"
9:58 PM · Oct 7, 2020brat really just did drugs.... on screen..."

In case you thought I was lying here's Brat getting high on laughing gas:

The episode this is from, episode 6, is actually Rhinokey-centric. It's about a big race in town that Rhinokey is not allowed to compete in due to almost killing Bumblelion.

9:55 PM · Oct 7, 2020 "rhinokey just committed vehicular manslaughter"

Anyway, I don't think The Wuzzles needs a villain. There's enough drama in that whole friendgroup.

I guess the last ep I wanna talk about is episode 7, where Bumblelion watches a cartoon about a guy named "Buck Swashler" and tries to save Butterbear from a witch who Butterbear is just chillin with.

10:02 PM · Oct 7, 2020 "we're on episode 7. bumblelion is kinning"
10:07 PM · Oct 7, 2020
"he is straight up trying to kindate butterbear"

Overall, it was nowhere near as saccharine as one would expect, but it was to the show's detriment. A lot of the characters were rude as hell, particularly Rhinokey. Also Rhinokey shouldn't have been in Ducktales because he's the worst one, but my opinions on the characters they put in Ducktales will be later down the road

6:16 PM · Oct 6, 2020 "also all the characters have wings but they are purely accessory"

Overall Rating for the Wuzzles: E Tier

A little about the Disney Watch

So, back in October of 2020, I started a project on Twitter: That project being "I'm going to watch every Disney Channel Cartoon." Sounds easy enough... (It's actually a tedious nightmare)

I had some rules. Disney had to have a hand in making the cartoon (i.e. no imports). I did not want to do Marvel or Star Wars shows because I love myself. (I may change my mind about this.) Disney Junior and Playhouse Disney were fair game. No shows that were shorts. If I did a show it had to at least have a half hour specials (So something like Star Darlings was acceptable, while something like Two More Eggs was not). No compilation shows unless they had new content (So Raw Toonage was okay, while Donald Duck Presents was not). I would watch either majority of the series or 13 episodes, whichever was shorter (So with 13-episode Nightmare Ned, I would watch 7 episodes, and with the 87-episode Kim Possible, I'd watch 7). If I liked a show though I would go back to it. If I finished a show and had a strong memory of it, I would not go back.

I had a few shows on my list that were a bit iffy. Clerks: The Animated Series was not a Disney cartoon, but it was animated by DTVA. 1990's Madeline was originally an import, but Disney and ABC had a hand in later seasons. Stuff like that I decided to watch.

I got up to Monsters at Work... Albeit, around the time a lot more Monsters at Work (and also Chicken Squad) has been released.

The purpose of this blogspot is going to be twofold. First: I kind of hate Twitter. I always keep my account locked, and I'm usually deactivated. Therefore, this blogspot will serve as something of an archive. I'm not 100% how to go about this (leave a comment if you have ideas), but I'll likely make posts about various shows and post my collection of tweets about said shows. I also have a few theories about commonly seen aspects in shows, including naming and categorizing characters into tropes (i.e. "The Timon and Pumbaa") or wondering why certain tropes happen (i.e. "Why does this likeable character get bullied?") Those will come in gradually.

The other purpose of this blogspot is to have a place to write down opinions on new Disney shows, and shows I return to. The thing about animation is that the trends are always changing. So many of my friends adore The Ghost and Molly McGee, a show I have yet to see. In addition, people are talking about the Proud Family reboot, and as I enjoyed the original series, I look forward to seeing that.

Also Alice's Wonderland Bakery is one I'm ecstatic for, and if you are new here, you will see why soon.

Before I go, I'm going to bring up the tiermaker! This was made by my friend Tally, and can be found here if you wanna fill it out yourself.

Every show here is one I have opinions on, from the best show (Motorcity) to the worst (Space Chickens in Space). Some are likely to change (I still have more Chicken Squad and Monsters at Work to finish, and if I ever find more than one 11-minute episode of Jungle Junction, I intend to return to that one).

But yeah, this is sort of an introduction to this project... As for myself. I'm a non-binary graduate student in my late 20's. I read a lot of psychology and neuroscience literature and not much else. I used to really love cartoons but this project has left me feeling jaded about them. I like to draw the same three things ad-infinitum, and everyone thinks I'm a hipster.

So yeah, welcome. Leave a comment on how you think I should go about this blog as an archive, or what you want to see my opinions on!
